I'd like to add a vented kitchen hood, but hear lots of varying opinions on if I should core drill into the stone. Some warm that it'll risk the integrity of the home. Need some advice on temporarily blocking/ dealing hood vent. I live in CA and during our wildfires, we will get smoke leaking though the hood vent even though it’s not in use. Also, we will periodically get flies stuck in the vent above the screen so those are getting in somehow too. I don’t want to replace anything on the roof/ outdoors at this time. Any recommendations for how to best deal this off seasonally? I’m curious about the soffit’s ability to withstand the weight of the hood vent - which weighs approximately 80lbs. The vent comes with an installation bracket. My plan is to secure the bracket to the soffit using a toggle type of anchor that is designed to carry heavier weights.
